INNOVADE at the Digital Democracy The Hague event

Fatih presenting at ddth

INNOVADE was proud to take part in the Digital Democracy The Hague 2025 conference, one of Europe’s key gatherings for civic tech innovators, policymakers, researchers, and civil society actors.

As part of the programme, the INNOVADE coordination team introduced the project and officially presented its Interdisciplinary Knowledge Base on Digital Democracy — a major milestone consolidating research across models of democracy, online participation, open governance, digital activism, e-voting, and disinformation resilience.

Our presentation

The presentation highlighted three central pillars of the Knowledge Base:

Online Participation, introduced by Joel Museba (KU Leuven), explored how citizens can meaningfully shape public decision-making through digital tools.

Open Governance, presented by Laurien Coenen (KU Leuven), outlined how transparency, accountability, and inclusive co-creation can be embedded in institutional practice.

Foreign Interference and Digital Threats, discussed by INNOVADE Coordinator Fatih Yilmaz, addressed the growing risks of disinformation, manipulation, and hybrid interference in democratic systems.

The session sparked strong interest from both practitioners and policymakers eager to explore how INNOVADE’s upcoming Digital Democracy App and Grading Toolkit can support municipalities, public administrations, and civic organisations across Europe.

We look forward to deepening collaborations initiated at The Hague and continuing the conversation at our upcoming public webinar on 21 October: "Shielding Democracy in the Digital Age".
